In the past, grandma and grandpa have taken the kids on their own to either Disneyland or Catalina, but since they're getting older, they feel a little more comfortable with some parental support. So a couple years ago, when it was Holly's turn, our whole family went. This time, just Dana and I went along. My mom took our other 3 for us. (BTW- they had just as much fun as we did. They got to go to the beach and even Knott's Berry Farm! Lucky kids! No one really took any photos though so.)
So, the first weekend in June, we headed for California. We were all super excited!
In line for the boat.
Grandma always gets the kids these old-fashioned suitcases and then decorates them. They hold all the clothes she makes for the trip and their little journals where they write about what they did and add pictures to later.

A little Dramamine-induced nap on the boat over.

Or maybe it was a rest, because most of the time they were bouncing and running all over the place asking for someone to take them upstairs so they could be outside.

And our whole group...

Sophie's big brother Lars came along too. He just graduated from high school. It was fun getting to know him a little better.
It was beautiful there. We had sun and fog, but coming from the desert climate, we were up for all of it :)

This is the front of the cute house where we stayed.

Grandma made them these cute shorts and lots of others. These were my favorite.

They loved looking like twins the whole time.

One morning grandpa took the girls with him on a run and we were saying they looked like little ducks following behind.

There goes my amazing 82 yr-old FIL!

One favorite activity was going to get ice cream everyday:)

We also went down to Pebbly beach one day and Dana and Lars snorkled.
We...took a selfie.

Oh, and Sadie touched a crab!

On an early morning walk to the pier.

One of the days, Dana and I got a little alone time and went and rented a paddle boat. That was a lot of fun, and surprisingly a really good workout!

I'll take some alone time with Dana whenever I can.

We tried to do a panorama of Avalon..

This was the preferred mode of transport around the island for the little girls.

On the day we left, the Landsems came to rent the house for the rest of the week.
Here's everyone together :)

We had such a great time! Thanks to grandma and grandpa for being such fun grandparents. When that day comes for us, we think this could be a fun tradition to continue.
Can't believe our baby's eight!
